ORA-32004: obsolete or deprecated parameter(s) specified for RDBMS instance

ORA-32004: obsolete or deprecated parameter(s) specified for RDBMS instance

ORACLE instance started.

Solution:
background_dump_dest, core_dump_dest, and user_dump_dest have been deprecated and replaced by the single parameter diagnostic_dest in oracle 11g.

SQL>SELECT isdeprecated,name,value FROM v$parameter WHERE name like ‘%dump_dest%’;

ISDEP NAME VALUE
—– —————————————- ————————————————————
TRUE background_dump_dest /export/home/oracle/diag/rdbms/shark/shark/trace
TRUE user_dump_dest /export/home/oracle/diag/rdbms/shark/shark/trace
FALSE core_dump_dest /export/home/oracle/diag/rdbms/shark/shark/cdump

So from above result, it is clear that core dump dest is still in 11g and if it is deprecated/obsolete,
then oracle will def mention them in dictionary view

bdump, udump and cdump directories and the initialization parameters background_dump_dest and user_dump_dest are deprecated in 11g.
