Enabling Archive Log Mode in RAC 10g

Enabling Archive Log Mode in RAC 10g:

STEPS:

1. Disable clustering putting cluster_database parameter FALSE.

#export ORACLE_SID=cobra1


#sqlplus “/ as sysdba”

Check the status of archive mode of the database:

SQL>archive log list
Database log mode              No Archive Mode
Automatic archival             Disabled
Archive destination            USE_DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST
Oldest online log sequence     407
Current log sequence           408

SQL> alter system set cluster_database=false scope=spfile sid=’cobra1′;

2. Shutdown all instances using srvctl utilty

$ srvctl stop database -d cobra

3. Mount tha database using one of the instance:

$ sqlplus “/ as sysdba”


SQL> startup mount

4. Enable archivelog using following command:

SQL> alter database archivelog;


5. Re-enable clustering putting instance parameter cluster_database to TRUE from the current instance:


SQL> alter system set cluster_database=true scope=spfile sid=’cobra1′;


6. Shutdown the local instance:


SQL> shu immediate


7. Startup all instances using srvctl utility:


#srvctl start database -d cobra


8. If any service is not up then get up those using srvctl utility:


#srvctl start service -d cobra


9. And now check archivelog mode is enabled or not using following:


#sqlplus “/ as sysdba”


SQL> archive log list

Database log mode            Archive Mode
Automatic archival             Enabled
Archive destination            USE_DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST
Oldest online log sequence     407
Current log sequence           408
